Living Materials Workshop Catalog

Intro to Living Materials

Discover what biomaterials are and why they matter in shaping more ecological futures. We’ll explore local, low-impact ingredients and discuss how designers are shifting away from extractive materials. We’ll talk about algae, fungi, food waste & plant matter and how to incorporate them into interior furniture & objects.

Mycelium Forms

Explore the incredible world of fungi and how mycelium can become a living building material. Learn to grow and mold it into a small vessel using a simple at-home setup.

Eggshell Ceramics

Learn how discarded eggshells can be transformed into delicate, ceramic-like vessels. We’ll discuss how to grind, bind, and form them into functional or decorative objects.

Crafting Bioplastics

Learn how to cook up your own bioplastic using kitchen ingredients, and explore its diverse applications— from textiles and lighting to sculptural forms.

Colors of the Earth

In this workshop we will be playing with different natural pigments made with local herbs & earth material as a way of connecting with our local landscape. We will be exploring the history of natural pigments with an emphasis on how they were used in art making historically.

Herbs Around Us

In this workshop we will learn how to craft herbal remedies to support ourselves and we will learn about 3-4 different herbs and how they can support us in revitalizing and nourishing our bodies & minds. This workshop highlights locally available and abundant medicines growing around us, on Lenapehoking land (BK). Bring your knowledge, curiosity and an open heart to share as we explore the abundant gifts of the Earth.
